Short and Sweet
We have a communication problem in Emergency Management.
Not with response- many dedicated PIOs and communications folks have done tremendous jobs informing partners and the public during incidents.
I am talking about the world of preparedness. As I thought about what to write for a blog, I realized we need to do a better job of keeping it short and sweet. While other EM folks will enjoy longer, more academic articles, this isn't going to reach beyond the bubble we have tried to build ourselves.
The reality is, there is no bubble. Preparedness is a unique field that should be part of every single other field, every business, every community, every job. We need to do a better job planning, writing, and communicating with that in mind.
Not building complex languages, or hiding behind our acronyms. We need to speak in a way that's going to reach our colleagues - which is everyone, not just other emergency managers.
Short and sweet is not lazy. Simple is not unsophisticated.
